Itinerary description
A day's hike from the beautiful village of "Sor Laspur", it also leads to Thalo Zom peak and Thalo Pass which descends into Kumrat Valley.
Our initial plan was to do Thalo pass but we were stuck at the lake for 4 nights due to continuous rain.
Lake can be reached in one day from Sor Laspur depending on the team, however usually it takes two days.
If you are doing Thalo pass, you don't camp on the lake on the second day, infact cross and camp there.
In our case, however, due to weather, we camped at the lake.
The jeep goes beyond the village and can drop you off to the end of the man-grown forest of the village from where you can start the trek.
On the way back, you can get picked up from the same spot, however I walked to the Polo Ground of the village.
Waypoints
Campsite at the end of Sor Laspur outskirts
Our campsite was roughly 3 kilometers away from the village of Sor Laspur. Our jeeps dropped us there except for a water crossing near the campsite.
Start of water crossing
River crossing is complicated as the river keeps spreading and shrinking. It's better to cross it with friends and use hiking sticks.
Deeper Water Crossing
River crossing is complicated as the river keeps spreading and shrinking. It's better to cross it with friends and use hiking sticks.
Start of steep and Long Ascend
This perhaps was the most energy drenching part of the hike. Continuous hike to the top of the mountain and surprisingly, you descend all the way down again. Since you have to reach the lake, ideal trek should have been along with the river bed. But due to landslide prone area, the path traverses through this part which is very tough for some people.
Panorama view of Valley and Water Crossing
Such a beautiful view of the water bed
Risky area with falling rocks
The whole trek is prone to the boulders. but this area is the most risky as the sandy mud makes you slip and the rocks are unstable too.
1st Day Campsite
We camped here next to a huge rock. Italians camped next to us but their spot was little risky to boulder fall. Water was a little away from out camp site however due to the rain in the evening and night, we got a water stream closer to our camps in the morning. Rock provided a good spot for the fire and gathering.
Day 2 - departure from the Campsite
We departed in the morning from the campsite after the breakfast.
End of Steep Ascend
This marked the end of the steep ascend. Next there was slight descend and further trek was a gradual hike through bolders.
Yak Sanctuary
I saw a lot of yaks at this scenic plateau grazing and resting. With yellow grass, green water and grey mountains, it looked like another world.
Camp Site at Bhaskar Gol Lake
We carefully selected the site considering the rain, strong wind and most importantly land sliding. Due to cold weather, rain and wind we did not camp at the bank of the lake. Camp site had a fresh water spring from the glacier above which also had a beautiful waterfall. There was also a cave at the top of boulders where our porters stayed.
Bhaskar Gol Lake
One of the hidden gems up in the Hindukuch mountains. Bhaskar Gol is fed by massive glaciers on the sharp peaks. We were in aw when we saw it's grandeur and beauty surrounding it which included the snow covered peaks and lush meadows with yaks grazing around. There is rich flora and fauna to be enjoyed not to mention the view of the lake which binds a spell on you.
