Descent of crazy in front of the cliffs of the park: all the beauty of the place.

Going down like mad with the beautiful Imitgogo in front.

To make an interesting hike in the Simien, you have to understand the geography. The center of the park, from south to north, is a large hilly plateau that ends in the west and north by a very impressive escarpment, some 1,500 meters deep. The edge of this cliff is cut and covered with very beautiful gorges. The landscape opens towards Mulit and Mekarebia with rocky peaks, remains of old volcanoes as well as very cut valleys some 1000 to 2000 m lower.
The most beautiful part of this cliff goes from above Geech to Chennek with highlights in Saha, Imet Gogo and Inatye. The "summits" of 4000m and some are not free peaks but plateaus with gentle slopes that end with the cliff.
Bwahit is the only true summit. It also offers a view towards the escarpment and another towards the valley where Ambikwa and Ras Dashen are located. This valley is much less beautiful and there is no longer escarpments or volcanic peaks. In the Bwahit we also have the opportunity to cross Walia Ibex and baboons gelada. The Ras Dashen is also slightly higher than the Bwahit.
To continue towards Ambikwa and Ras Dashen is not interesting; it is much better to go down to Sona after passing the Bwahit and its pass. The landscapes near Mekarebia, Mulit and Adiarkay are much more beautiful. Near Mulit there is a beautiful walk to do around the three volcanic peaks that are right next to this beautiful village. The villages of altitude and those of the valley are very different, the city of Adiarkay is a jewel of its kind and this tour allows to discover the whole. The road from Adiarkay to Gondar is impressive and more beautiful than that from Debark to Gondar. Moreover, by making this turn, we make a loop without going back and forth. Finally, the start of the tour starts on the highlands where it is cold and ends in the valley much hotter with rivers in the basin where you can spend time and swim. The escarpment is beautiful from above but also very impressive from below.
It is therefore the escarpment of Imet Gogo and the Mekarebia Valley that are worth seeing, the rest of the park is quite commonplace.
Ideally, you have to start the hike starting very early in the morning from Gondar and asking the muleteers to wait on the road between Debark and Chennek at Geech. Let the muleteers go to Geech with your luggage. Go straight to make the easy loop of Imet Gogo, Saha, Kadadit Amba to sleep in Geech at night. The walk from Debark to Geech is quite ordinary and is avoided. You should know that there is a road that goes from Debark to Geech, Chennek, Bwahit Pass, Ambikwa and Ras Dashen ... They are building a new road in the Ambikwa Valley (October 2012) . You have to go through the ridges and the valley of Mekarebia to avoid this road disaster. In the valley, the road stops at Adiarkay and the rest of the valley is still exclusively pedestrian. The crossing of the river, without bridge, closes the access of the valley. But when will the road ...?
So: J1 Gondar, Imet Gogo, Saha, Kadadit Amba, Geech
J2 Inatye, Chennek by the crete
J3 Bwahit, Sona
J4 Sona, Mekarebia
J5 Mekarebia, Mulit
J6 The Mulit pitons tour, Adiarkay
J7 Adiarkay Gondar, Bahir Dar or Axum

If necessary, but it's a shame, we can do Sona - Adiarkay in a day without difficulties, everything is downhill, but it's no longer a walk. It is better to enjoy the place, villages and rivers.
It is better to make the turn in this direction because we go downhill.
