Itinerary description
This route starts at Vail, chooses under the interstate joins the Son of Middle Creek trailhead, follows it, then emerges onto a wide red earth road heading towards the mountain to the left (coming from Vail) of Bald Mountain.
When I did this there was plenty of snow under the trees on the ridges making it very difficult without snowshoes to get over the ridges and into the other valleys. I was hoping to loop right and get onto the Spraddle Creek Trail (which was my original choice, but took one trail to early and missed it). So this hike ended up being an out and back.
Stunning views of Vail mountain, delightful first trails and very quiet, hardly any people.
Moderate, well-defined trail, , but a lot of climbing 950m, at relativity high altitude. Getting around the snow drifts on the high trail made it difficult.
