Itinerary description

Great route that goes up to the top of Snowdon - Yr Wyddfa mountain. 1085 meters that represent the highest peak in Wales and the fourth highest in the UK.

The route starts in Pen-y-Pass. It's a mountain pass on the road that goes to Llamberis. In Pen-y-Pass there is a parking, a restaurant, a youth hostel and also the mountain offices. This parking is not free however you can park for free in a parking area that is right on the road a few meters before getting here (comming from Llamberis).

There are several tracks that go up to Snowdon - Yr Wyddfa. The two most popular are Pyg track and Miners track. This route goes up following Pyg track and then comes down following Miners track (around the lakes).

Going up on Pyg track is a bit steep at first, it gets better after a while and then it's steep again until you reach the train tracks. Once you get to the train tracks it's quite easy and enjoyable walk all the way to the summit.

Yes, there is a touristic train that goes all the way to the summit. You can catch it in Llamberis.

The way down on Miners track is a bit steep until you get to the upper lake and from there is a very nice and enjoyable walk down to Pen-y-Pass.

The route is circular to make it more varied and interesting. I recommend it to do it counterclockwise (up Pyg track and down Miners track) because the way up will be easier due to having an area in the middle a bit less steep.

The whole route is well marked and easy to follow. Be careful if there is fog or the weather is bad.

Very nice way to climb the Snowdon. A the top their is a trainstation where you can drink and eat something.
    A few tips:
    - visit the Snowdon when it's not to cloudy
    - go as early as possible, this way the paths are not to crowded
    - you can park your car at the Pen-y-Pass. However it costs £10 and parking spots are limited (another reason to go early).

Very easy to follow, I've actually done it in the opposite direction and I believe it might be easier, since you have a super easy approach on via Miners. It wasn't great weather when I did it. The top is very chilly when the wind is blowing. The rest of the route is okay with not a lot exposure to winds. The climb to Snowdon from the last lake can be quite a challenge if you're not fit.

Great trail. There are some more technical stuff to do, if you want to extend to the south on your way back, like Y Lliwedd -just be aware it needs a lot of scrambling.

Also: Get there early to secure a parking spot close to the start of the trail. If not, there is another parking around 5 miles down the road and a constant connection between the two with a very cheap (£2ish) coach. Be careful, last coach is 7pm, so be back before that to avoid another unnecessary 5mi walk to your car :)
