SNL2 | Vila - Caleijão

This sector starts at the Vila de Ribeira Brava “terreiro” (yard) and continues along Rua Direita, passing through the Town Hall towards the bandstand, where the Main Route (SNP3) is abandoned, heading towards the old Seminary and, little by little, away from the centre of the village. Through walls of volcanic dikes, we enter a stream that reminds us of an oasis. We then begin a climb to the first viewpoint. This ascent is made by a trail that is widely used by cattle. Reaching the top, it is possible to sight the entire Ribeira Brava Valley, from the sea to Monte Cintinha, and at the same time the entire plateau of Caleijão, overlooking the Aerodrome of Preguiça and the sea, on the south side of the island. The arrival in Caleijão is made by a cobbled road. Arriving at the main road, you can choose to visit the old Orphanage or continue up to the point where this route has the option of heading to Tarrafal or to Preguiça.

Este setor inicia-se no terreiro da Vila da Ribeira Brava e segue ao longo da Rua Direita, passando pela Câmara Municipal para depois virar junto ao Coreto, abandonando o Percurso Principal e seguindo na direção do antigo Seminário. Passando em frente ao grandioso edifício, pouco a pouco somos afastados do centro da vila. Por entre muralhas de diques vulcânicos, vamos entrando numa ribeira que é um autêntico oásis e inicia-se uma subida até ao primeiro miradouro. A subida é por um trilho muito usado pelo gado. Chegando ao topo da subida é possível deslumbrar todo o Vale da Ribeira Brava, desde o mar até ao Monte Cintinha, e ao mesmo tempo todo o planalto de Caleijão, avistando o Aeródromo de Preguiça e o mar no lado sul da ilha. O percurso segue por entre muros atravessando hortas que estão a ser invadidas por acácias que em dias ventosos enchem o ar de rangidos. A chegada a Caleijão faz-se por uma longa calçada a subir. Chegando à estrada principal existe a opção de visitar o antigo Orfanato ou prosseguir até ao local onde este percurso deriva entre na direcção do Tarrafal (SNL2a) ou da Preguiça (SNL2b).
