Sněžka: the highest mountain in Czechia
The Sněžka summit is one of the most valuable natural points that the Giant Mountains have to offer. It is possible to summit the 1603 meters of this mountain on foot, although from the Czech side it can also be reached via a cable car in two phases. If the weather is good, the panoramic view is spectacular.
Ascent to Sněžka from Pec pod Sněžkou and finish at Špindlerova bouda
We did the climb from Pec pod Směžkou at about 750m altitude. The route passes through the Krkonoše (Giants) National Park. Initially we follow the course of the Úpa River along a marked forest path, but then it continues up the ridge with multiple twists, heading north, until we reach the border with Poland in Dom Slaski, with a restaurant, which extends from East to West.
From this place we went up to the very busy summit, where there is a restaurant, a chapel to St. Lawrence and the terminal of the cable car that leaves from Pec pod Sněžkou.
For the return we took the “Friendship Trail”, along a forest path that runs along the border with the Czech Republic in Polish territory, until the end of the route in Splinderova Bouda.
They call it the “Friendship Path”, because in other times of borders, this border path was shared by Czech and Polish walkers without any bureaucratic restrictions.
From Spliderova Bouda a bus takes us to Spindleruv Mlyn and another could take us to Pec pod Sněžkou by synchronizing the schedules.
