Itinerary description
Slano Kopovo is a saltwater lake in the Banat/Vojvodina that makes it a haven for bird life. We went at sunset in early November to see the cranes migrating from Estonia to Africa. Slano Kopovo is a stop off point.
The hike is totally flat with no elevation. All you need is shoes that can manage a bit of mud and, if you're going at sunrise or sunset (which is highly recommended), a torch. Binoculars are good too!
You are not allowed to go too close to the cranes and the correct procedure is to register your presence before going. We just enjoyed the diverse but flat landscape, the birds flying over us and the noise of their calls, which was amazing!
We hiked from the "Basaidska Strana" - the other option is to hike from the road on the other side "Milosevska Strana" - we will do that next time as there do seem to be a few more birds down that end, but it is a shorter hike.
