Trail photos
The Skocjan Caves are located in the Skocjan Karst, a broad level region on the SE edge of the central Karst, at an altitude of between 420 and 450 m.
At first glance, the surface of the Skocjan Karst appears flat, but on closer inspection it is highly fragmented.
Stormwater from the Karst seeps into the subsoil through the cracks. This is how caves are created, while karstic hollows of different sizes are formed on the surface.
The Skocjan caves are the most important underground phenomenon in the Karst region and in Slovenia and are among the most important caves in the world.
