Itinerary description
This hike starts off in an urban forest, the trail follows along Beaver Creek to its junction with a logging road called "Fairservice Main". The forest section is a pleasant walk, it is actually along an old railway right of way which once carried logging trains from Lake Cowichan to Mesachie Lake.
Once onto Fairservice Main it is all logging road with some views of the hills on both sides of the Cowichan River Valley. It soon begins to climb and as you go up the views get better and better, climaxing at a spectacular panoramic view of the valley. From there you can see west over the town of Lake Cowichan and up the Lake as well as east and down the valley to Duncan. It is pretty impressive!
Beware that Fairservice Main is an active logging road. You may encounter logging trucks and they will not be expecting you and they are not pedestrian friendly. If you hear one approaching, get WELL OFF the road until it passes!
We did make a slight error between waypoint #2 & #3. As you pass waypoint #3, turn right.
There is street side parking at the trailhead. Public washrooms are available at Saywell Park , 1/2 km from the Trailhead.
The Retreads Hiking Club gives this hike an AVA rating of 3 A.
