Itinerary description
A good mix of terrain that shows off what the west Sintra area has to offer.
Starts with going down to the shore with some thrilling but not too scary paths along the side of the cliffs. Goes up to the Forno de Cal - an area with a lot of limestone, and along an interesting limestone well structure.
From there the path leads up through some very picturesque villages on the hillside, before going into the Sintra forest area. Here the path goes through prime forest, which I think is the nicest part of the woodlands in Sintra.
Eventually we go on some pretty small paths through the woods, finally reaching a clearing with some large boulders. There is supposed to be a picnic area here, but the tables have been destroyed or have decayed. Luckily it is even more fun having your lunch or rest on the boulders anyway, while enjoying the pristine forest around you.
Afterwards, the path leads past the Peninha Sancuary, which can be visited should you want to. The views from here are great, often allowing you to see everything from Guincho Beach all the way to the April 25 Bridge in Lisbon, and everything in between on the Linha.
After this the path starts going downhill again towards where we started in Malveira. Note that the decline is often quite steep and rocky here, so make sure you have good footwear.
