Itinerary description
For daytrip from mainland, suggest arriving at SwartzBay with bicycle on Ferry (at $18, its a few dollars more than a foot-passenger fare -Dec, 2015), then bicycle into Sidney along the Lochside Trail. There are good bike racks along Beacon St. Explore the Beacon St. shops and cafes. Track follows the waterfront foot paths including the piers (no-bicycle zone).
Alternatively, take double-decker bus from the foot-passenger exit at Swartz Bay directly to Sidney ($2.50 coin fare).
The saved track is by walking all 9 km from Sidney to the Ferry. It gives a feel for residential areas of Sidney. It passes a local fish-and-chips in a residential area, takes a short side trip to pass Van Isle Marina where there are facilities and a restauraunt, then joins Lochside Trail to Ferry terminal.
