Itinerary description

It's not hard to turn this easy and pretty hike into a loop if you're self-driving (we did about 80 percent of the loop). If you look at the satellite image on the map, it's pretty self-explanatory.

You could even take the train to/from Belgrade to Sid and do this walk starting and ending at the station. I'm not sure how often the train goes or how convenient that is though and it will make the total hike length closer to 20km...

The hike as we did it starts on the outskirts of the town of Sid, near the Croatian border. The scenery is farmland, vikendicas and the forest at the far Western end of Fruska Gora National Park. It passes through the village of Berkasovo. We stopped and sat outside on the conveniently provided benches in the main square to eat our lunch. There is a pretty church.

This is a perfect winter's hike. Most of the trail is on paved roads, which are dead quiet, but it means there is less mud. We also did this hike on the first day with plus temperatures after a string of below zero days, so even where there would usually be mud after rain or if it was a bit warmer, we had a good experience - the ground was largely frozen.

If you do this trail in summer it will be very hot, as there are several stretches of open farmland with no shade. But there are spots to refill water bottles - at the 'Female Monastery' (not sure why this is never translated as 'nunnery') of St Petka you can get Holy Water. Otherwise you can buy water in Berkasovo town shop.

If you're looking for something not challenging that gets you out into the fresh air with plenty of pretty Vojvodina scenery, I highly recommend this hike.

The length would be about 16km if you do the full loop.

Enjoy!

It is obvious from the satellite image where you need to keep going to get back to the start.
