For the first time in Italy, a two-week holiday in Sicily: maybe the weather wasn't great, but still we could make the planned walk every day and had a great time.
In the morning we visited the Megaliths of the Argimusco Plateau, and in the afternoon we went to the Forest of Malabotta, only 2 kilometers further. To make this easy hike we needed 2 hours, exactly the time available between the 2 thunderstorms that passed. So there was no rain, no thunder or lightning, but the fog and low clouds between the majestic trees gave a mysterious touch to the woods, especially to the gnarled and mossy oaks, the "Patriarchs of the Forest". The fog dampened all noise and a deep silence reigned over the woods.
After 900 meters, in a rest area with some banks, we follow the forest road to the left, and after 1.2 kilometer, at Portella di Croce Mancina, we follow the forest trail to the right (on our way back we will return by the trail on the left hand). The "Patriarchs of the Forest" are at the highest point of the walk. At a fork, after 2.7 km, the route turns into a sharp curve to the left, leaving the deciduous forest and descends rapidly. At the next fork after 3.5 km, again the route makes a sharp curve to the left, we reach the pinewood and climb gradually to Portella Croce di Mancina.
