Itinerary description
Start at the Forestry Commission Abbey Wood parking area by the B5062 Newport Road east of Shrewsbury. Do not take the forest road but take the track just outside the woodland that leads directly to the ruins of Haughmond Abbey.
Optional visit to Haughmond Abbey, English Heritage, free admission. Return to the entrance of the abbey and take the footpath that goes round the outside of the Haughmond Abbey perimeter fence and gives quite good views of the abbey even if it is closed.
Continue on footpaths to Ebury Hill. There is no public access to the summit of Ebury Hill as it is a camp site. Turn back then take a footpath south past Haughmond Farm to the B5062 Newport Road. At the road turn sharp right on a footpath that leads to the forest road back to the start.
