Itinerary description

This trek starts from Shounter waterfall in Shounter valley, AJK, Pakistan and ends at Dangi Bian in Guraiz valley, Astore, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. The trek reaches a height of 4576 m at Shounter Pass.

Waypoints

Camp

The high camp was made at a higher elevation so that the next day's trek to the pass and beyond is less tiring and less time consuming. A small patch of land has been levelled to accommodate a couple of tents. Water is also available nearby.

Dangi Bian

This shepherds' summer settlement was the end of the trek. We stayed the night here and took the jeep to Astore the next morning.

Shounter Pass

Located at a height of 4576 m, the pass links Shounter valley, AJK, to Guzair valley, Astore, Gilgit Baltistan. Though the trek gains height gradually most of the way, the final ascent is challenging due to soft snow, loose rock on loose mud, and low oxygen levels due to altitude.
