Itinerary description
Instead of taking the 16 km trail or doing most of the trail on horseback, we drove down the road from Jardín to Andes. After about 1,5 km you cross a yellow bridge with dirtroads on either side of the bridge, on your right hand. 300 meters later is another dirtroad on the right, taking you up into the mountains. Turn right again at a Y junction, following the sign to Cueva del Esplendor. Pass the red and white antenna towers and you will reach a small settlement. Here you can buy a drink and ask permission to pass through the gate taking you even more up the hill. You park your car at the beginning of the trail. After 4 km you will reach a finca where you can pay cop 6000 a person to enter the downhill trail to the Cueva. Its a steep decent with ropes to hold on to. Some parts are slippery. After the refreshingly dip under de cascade you can follow the river upstream back to the finca. There is a sign Subida por el rio to indicate the beginning of this alternative way to climb back up. The walk back is easier untill the end where the decent is steeper and the loose rocks make you slip a few times.
