Itinerary description
This is a long but excellent walk which traverses reasonably well maintained tracks (a few uncleared tree-falls) in the Binna Burra Section of Lamington National Park. The gradient of the walk is also very low making it easy for any walker with good fitness. Numerous lookouts are located along the track and offer views of Ballangui Falls, Egg Rock, Turtle Rock, Springbrook Plateau, as well as the exposed points along the edge of the Ships Stern Plateau.
The trip to Upper and Lower Ballangui Falls are not traditionally included in the Ships Stern Circuit. However after visiting both these sites I can definitively conclude that they are well worth the extra few kilometers required to see them. There are also some shallow waterholes at Upper Ballanjui Falls which are quite refreshing on a hot day, whilst also boasting excellent views out over the valley. Any of the lookouts sign posted along the walk are also worth investigating, as there are only limited views available along the trail if you choose to avoid all the lookout side trips.
All the lookouts and track directions are very well signposted so it is actually unnecessary to use a map at all. Also on a side note: as this is Lamington NP be prepared for leeches. My party certainly encountered plenty, particularly around the upper Ballangui falls section of the walk.
