Itinerary description
If coming from Sutton Cross park up on the left several hundred meters after passing Howth Golf club after the road has dipped downwards. The walk starts at a gap on the left where there is a speed limit sign opposite a public path/grill on the right (which leads to Red Rock).
Ignore the purple arrow pointing to the left to go up the hill (the purple arrow takes a flat walk around Shielmartin, which is suitable for those tired after the longer cliff walk but which misses out most of the great views from Shielmartin.
At the top of Shielmartin, the right of way downhill is well signposted, at the bottom of which you rejoin the main trail to cross the golf course at the white painted pots which marks the right of way. Shortly after crossing the golf course, you leave the main trail to climb to the right to reach the top of Dun Hill.
Descending from Dun Hill and crossing the main trail to enter the woods, several trails to the left lead to Muck Rock.
Refreshments can be had at Deer Park before heading for home.
Overall, this is short but I have not marked as easy because it is a little steep in places. However, very doable and offers great views.
