Itinerary description

A hike best done in the winter along old roads just off of U.S. 33 in Shenandoah National Park. The Big Bend Fire Road was abandoned in the 1980's, while the other road, paralleling today's U.S. 33 is the original Spottswood Trail, built in the mid 1800's and abandoned by the mid-1930's. These roads are in amazingly good shape and make great trails! Because they are not on maps, I am ranking this as a difficult hike because it is off of current trails, but it is not one that will get you breathing heavily.
