Itinerary description
It started out fantastic. Beautiful fall day, start of trail was easy to find and parking was available just off the main road (Highway 41) 11 km south of Kaladar. The start of the trail was well marked and took us over exposed rock and through mixed shield forest. Minor ups and downs as we snaked through the area and saw several nice vistas along the way. Everything was going great!
There was a small note on my map that said you may not be able to cross if water level is high (and complete the circle route we had planned). As it was late fall, I did not think it would be a problem (good thing we left lots of time). We checked out a couple of locations to cross but no luck finding passage across the river, which grew into a lake and we were forced to circle back (the last picture shows our 'best' crossing option). We tried to find access to the main road (#41 directly to the east) but were blocked by water there as well (may not show on satellite images). Backtracking to the trail was mostly bushwhacking, which wasn't too bad in the fall but we were definitely off the trail from about 3.8km to 5.3km.
Beautiful hike, shame we couldn't finish the loop.
