Itinerary description
A long hike to the highest of three highpoints that make Shebenik Mountain, which gave the Shebenik National Park (near the border to Macedonia) its name. A hike with beautiful ridge-walks and to mountain lakes and mountain tops that tell you why you love to hike. And a hike with a short bushwhack that let's you wonder why you still continue doing this kind of stuff.
The hike is a mix of old disused forest roads, visible trails, and sometimes no trails at all. Note that on your return way you have to ascend again 270 Meters.
The map has two waypoints "bushwhack starts" and "bushwhack ends". You can avoid the bushwhack by simply following the forest road. This adds 3 kilometers to the trail (one way). On our way up, we did the bushwhack, and took the forest road down. There must be an easier way from the trailhead to the waypoint "possible descend" or nearby. If you find it, send me a mail.
It is also easily possible to climb Shebenik summit on its direct west ridge. From the mine (marked as a waypoint) follow the road into the valley for several hundred meter, then directly ascend to Shebenik summit. The ridge that directly leads from the mine to a secondary summit of Shebenik is very rocky and probably has some quite exposed spots.
The current google earth image (2004) is misleading as it gives the impression that the lower parts of the hike are across grassy ridges. Meanwhile, the lower parts are covered in thick bush.
The trailhead is on the top of the pass of the road that leads from Librazhd to Qarrishte.
