Itinerary description
Trekk ideal para iniciantes que queiram experimentar o contato com a natureza. Temos à nossa disposição vários pontos de interesse como as rochas cristalinas do seixo branco, o fragão do corvo com magnífica vista para Manteigas, a casa da fraga (descrição na bandeira) e passagem no interior de duas florestas, para além das inúmeras formações rochosas que encontramos no caminho e que puxam pela nossa imaginação.
Percurso sem dificuldades de progressão onde teço algumas notas.
O fragão do corvo encontra-se ao km 4,3km e não foi marcado por lapso.
Do km 4,3 ao 4,7km o gps apresentou uma falha pelo que o trajeto se encontra erradamente em linha reta. Ao descer do fragão do corvo devem apanhar uma trilha muito pequena ao lado direito, junto ao mesmo. essa trilha leva-nos à famosa casa da fraga. Começa com uma descida, passagem por dentro de um bosque e subida para a casa da fraga (durante o percurso existem algumas marcações).
Entre o km 7,2 e 7,7 ignore o desvio e siga pelo caminho que vos leva de volta à represa do vale do rossim.
Nesta altura do ano a represa está mais vazia por isso o traçado ficou dentro de água mas efetivamente pudemos caminhar nessa zona devido ao baixo caudal.

A Estância de Montanha das Penhas Douradas começou em 1882 na Casa da Fraga, onde um amontoado de blocos de granito foi engenhosamente aproveitado para anexos de uma casa construída pelo santareno Alfredo César Henriques, o primeiro tísico a ser tratado com os bons ares da altitude (a Casa encontra-se a 1.475 m). Por aqui se curou durante dois anos por aconselhamento do médico Sousa Martins e terá estado na origem das restantes construções que passaram a constituir esta estância. Ainda hoje se mantêm nas Penhas Douradas dezenas de casas dispersas, quase todas com origem nas primeiras décadas do século passado e destinadas na época à cura da tuberculose.

Very difficult
This is a spectacular area. Especially the southeast part of the walk is phantastic. Unfortunately the walk is no longer feasible as a roundtrip. Maybe the water level of the lake was lower and vegetation less when the trail was originally recorded? The part of the trail along the lake is now unwalkable, especially not doable for a family (trail was originally registered as "easy"). The attempt ended in a jungle adventure which had to be aborted despite the strong wish to make it happen. The same applies to the excursion away from the main road in the northwest part whch quickly ended in the unpenetratable woods.
I actually suggest to delete this roundtrip not to mislead other walkers. The best is a linear walk from Casa das Penhas clockwise up to the point where the trail hits the lake. From there you have to turn around and return back. It's worth it, one of the best great sceneries of Portugal!
Thank you for your comment. yes it's true, when i did this walk the level of the water was very low but I have been there more times with water level up. I think i have recorded that time.
In the near future I'll repeat the track and make my conclusions.
Great, Hugo. Much appreciated. This is a superb area and it is worth uploading an updated track. This morning I repeated the first part of the walk (clockwise from Casa das Penhas Douradas) and at the little forest (southeast corner of your route) I continued straight ahead into southern directions. This might be worth recording as a family walk, too. Easy to walk on the wavy plateau with great views.
Yes, this place is very beautiful. you must go to the crow's belvedere, it's like a must see place there! With a view over manteigas and a geocache spot. And have you seen "casa da fraga"?

The trail is no longer existent in the shown configuration. There is a part in the middle where there is no path to see and you will have to go through stony wood- and graslands. So it is better to shortcut the way between the house (Casa) and the street before. Also a way of about 500 meters nearely at the end of the track is no longer walkable and you have to find the best way by yourself.
All in all a really exciting track with some difficulties in finding the right way.
