Sendero La Virgencita, Ojén
This is a circular walk starting adjacent the lower car park in Ojén. The first half of the walk is all uphill.
You pass the Encarnación church and then go up calle Fuente, crossing over the road to pick up the sendero.
This route follows the Arroyo Almadán which continues into Parque Biological Cerezal (passing the first of 3 gates. Please keep them shut) staying on the left of the arroyo (not signposted).
Keep going up to the top end of the park then go through the second gate and through the first tunnel. (There was a big elevation dip which was caused by losing the gps signal in the tunnel).
Keep following the Arroyo Almadán until you get to the junction for Juanar, where the walk now starts its descent. Eventually you come to the junction on your left that takes you to the shrine of La Virgencita.
From here you get to the last gate and second tunnel, eventually bringing you back to the main road where you pick up calle Fuente again.
There are some nice bars in the square adjacent the church to stop off for refreshments.
I started at 10am and had about 80% shade. This is a good summer hike to do but not in the afternoon if it’s really hot.
