El sender PRC 02 SMI Praia – Lagoa do Fogo comença al final d’una petita carretera no gaire lluny de la població de Praia. Va pujant per dins el bosc fins arribar a un a sèquia (Levada) típica tant d’açores com de Madeira. Es continua per la sèquia fins arribar a Ribeira da Praia, on hi ha diversos punts de captació d’aigua. Es continua pujant fins arribar a la Lagoa do Fogo. En aquesta zona s'ha de tenir alguna cura amb les gavines, ja que aquestes poden resultar molt agressives a les èpoques de nidificació (abril-maig).
En lloc de tornar pel mateix camí seguim una mica més amunt fins arribar a un petit coll des d’on baixem per una ample pista forestal. Uns 600 m abans d’arribar al punt d’inici de la ruta, a l’aparcament del Parque Escutista dos Lagos agafem els sender Quatro Fábricas da Luz (PR 39 SMI). “Aquesta petita ruta linear travessa llocs de gran importància històrica per a la
industrialització de l'illa de finals del segle XIX i començaments del segle XX, retratant el principi de la producció i distribució de l'energia elèctrica amb fonts renovables impulsada per l'enginyer José Cordeiro ( 1867 – 1908).
Comenceu el recorregut a l'aparcament del Parc Escutista dos Lagos. Mirant cap al sud, creueu la porta al costat del rierol i seguiu fins al dipòsit d'aigua, que antigament proveïa a la Fàbrica da Cidade (1904 – 1974). Actualment, el dipòsit abasteix la Central Minihidràulica de Ribeira da Praia, construïda el 1990 i amb inici de producció el 1991. Seguiu pel camí a l'esquerra del dipòsit que baixa fins a la Fàbrica da Cidade, dos edificis en ruïnes contigus a la riera. Continueu pel sud passant per un trencall a l'esquerra cap al rierol, on podreu veure l'antiga càmera de càrrega de la Fàbrica da Vila.
Quan torneu al camí principal i arribeu a una bifurcació, opteu per l'esquerra fins arribar a la base d'una de les cascades de Ribeira da Praia. Aquí hi ha les ruïnes de la Fàbrica da Vila (1899/1900 – 1972), una de les quatre fàbriques més antigues. Seguiu la senyalització en paral·lel al rierol, cap a un bosc compost majoritàriament per pitòspors (Pittosporum undulatum) i acàcies (Acacia melanoxylon). Quan arribeu a una zona de camps de cultiu, baixeu de nou fins al rierol, on podreu gaudir d'un bany a la Cascada do Segredo a mà esquerra, o optar pel Poço dos 30 Reis a mà dreta. Continueu pel camí seguint l'antiga canonada d'aigua fins a Lugar da Praia.

The PRC 02 SMI Praia – Lagoa do Fogo trail starts at the end of a small road not far from the village of Praia. It goes up through the forest until you reach a ditch (Levada) typical of both the Azores and Madeira. Continue along the ditch until you reach Ribeira da Praia, where there are several water collection points. Continue climbing until you reach Lagoa do Fogo. In this area, some care must be taken with the seagulls, since they can be very aggressive during the nesting seasons (April-May).
Instead of returning on the same path, we continue a little higher until we reach a small pass from where we descend along a wide forest track. About 600 m before reaching the starting point of the route, at the Parque Escutista dos Lagos car park, take the Quatro Fábricas da Luz trail (PR 39 SMI). This small linear route crosses several places of great historical importance in the industrialization of the island, late 19th century - beginning of the 20th century, showing the starting of the production and distribution of electric energy through renewable sources, promoted by Eng. José Cordeiro (1867 – 1908).
“Begin the trail at the parking place of Parque Escutista dos Lagos. Facing South, cross the gate next to the stream and walk until the water reservoir that used to supply the factory Fábrica da Cidade (1904 – 1974). Nowadays the reservoir supplies the Mini Hydric Central of Ribeira da Praia, built in 1990 and beginning the production in 1991. Follow the road left of the reservoir going down until the Fábrica da Cidade, two buildings in ruins next to the stream. Continue South passing by a detour, on the left towards the stream, where it is possible to see the old loading chamber of Fábrica da Vila.
Back to the main road and arriving to a fork, choose left until you reach the base of one of the waterfalls of Ribeira da Praia. Here, we can see the ruins of the factory Fábrica da Vila (1899/1900 – 1972), the oldest of the four. Follow the marks parallel to the stream by a wood mainly with Australian Cheesewood (Pittosporum undulatum) and Australian Blackwood (Acacia melanoxylon). Arriving to an area with agricultural fields, go down again to the stream, where it is possible to dive in Cascata do Segredo waterfall to the left, or choose the Poço dos 30 Reis on your right.
Continue the road following the old water pipe until Lugar da Praia. Near the fountain, profit the detour on the right and visit the small museum Núcleo Museológico da Electricidade – Fábrica da Praia (1911 – 1974).”
