Itinerary description
The Schartenflue is probably the most worthwhile hiking destination from Dornach. It is also a very good idea, when you are in Basel and look for some mountain trails.
The trail includes a visit to the ruins of castle Dornach (which were closed in March 2019), and on easy trails to the summit of the Schartenflue.
On the summit is a firetower. Because it was closed during our visit in March (and also because of sudden thunderstorm), we didn't climb it. There is a restaurant on the summit as well.
For the return to the Parking lot we chose another route. Take care at way point 5 - don't take the first turn right (leading into a valley), but continue for 10 meters to find the second trail to the right leading along a ridge, which offers good view and interesting walking.

An easy walk, track is 95% accurate, some slight deviations.
Easy walk up and a more adventurous trail back down to the car park.
A very nice hike around Dornach and Gempen.

Good ascent, actually quite long in its entirety so make sure you and your company have some stamina.
Rewarded by incredible views of the surrounding rolling hills and in the distance the Alps (on a clear day).
Great walk if you are local to the area. The castle ruins in the first section of the climb are also a treat.
