Sarban Hill Ridge and Raja Rasalu Caves (From Chhoona road to Raja Rasalu caves and descend in Selhad)

Sarban Hill is the long mountain behind the Abbottabad city that starts near Murree road and ends near Hawelian.

The hill is infact multiple hills joint together which are bound by Dor river on east and south, by National highway on the west and by Murree road on the north. Hills have several villages and permanent settlements, jeep roads and a number of Mobile/Radio poles.

Raja Rasalu's caves are somewhat in the middle of the hill and near a village. They have long myths attached with them which I will explain in the end, first the detail about the hike.

There are several paths to the ridge and Raja Rasalu's caves but since we wanted to enjoy the ridge and spectacular views of Abbottabad and Dor river, we started the trek from the start of the hills, near Murree road.

Kala Pull on Murree road, it has a Chhoona road from where we started the trek (It's close of BISE Abbottabad). We were told that parking on Chhoona road is not safe so it's better to park at nearby Shell/PSO station.

From there you start hiking on the ridge and in no time you get the idea that hike will offer mesmerizing views as you get 270 degree views of Abbottabad city which spreads far beyond.
You get to see the quarry on the back side of the Sarban hill, water treatment tanks on the other hill and many villages.
Follow the ridge and you will pass a view villages, play grounds and all those "Piffer" markings on the hill that you see from the roads.

There is no water source on the trek, but you can ask the water from the houses on the trek. There are couple of mosques too and at one point a general store as well (that is an intersection that also takes you down towards Fawara chowk).

You also get to see the other side of the hill where there is Dor river and Miranjani (tallest mountain of Abbottabad).
Some turns were tricky but I tried to mark all those to make it easier to follow.
Also you can ask the local people who are very nice and helpful.
Mobile signals are available on most of the trek.

Finally you will reach the village where the cave is. Cave is 2 minutes hike down from the village and it's in a nook so you can see it unless you are in front of it.

To enter into the cave you have to crawl for 5 seconds only. As it's entrance is tightly narrow. But it's not a tunnel so no need to worry. Cave is small but can house 20 people easily. On it's end it's 5 feet deep, however it's 20-30 feet tall. It's always dark inside the cave so take headlamp or torch with you.

On our way back, from the same village we took a shortcut to Selhad. It was very very steep path that we took but since it as descend to it did not matter that much. We reached G.T. road and took pick up to out car parking. There are not many bikea riders in Abbottabad.

Now the History/mythology of Raja Rasalu caves

Raja Rasalu was the king of Sialkot state in BC and the present Hazara, Chhach and Potohar areas were under him. Raja Rasalu was an adventurous and fearless ruler who reached this region by subduing the rebellious Giant and settled on Saraban hill with his queen Koklan. After the self-immolation of Rani Koklan, Raja Risalu closed it by placing a big stone on the edge of the cave and moved away from the area.
The stone at the place of Khilabat is Raja Rssalu killing a giant with his slingshot (ranjata). There is another cave at Kafarkot in Haripur which is known as Giant's Cave, Raja Rasalu imprisoned the last surviving Giant alive in this caves

It should be remembered that Saraban Pahar has an exemplary position in the history of this city. Maidan Rush (Wadi Orsh) at the foot of this mountain was once a lake. At the end of the 16th century, the Jadoon tribes who settled on the surrounding mountains dug the Saraban mountain at Durkan and built a drainage channel from the lake which now mixes the dirty water of the sewers of Abbottabad with the clear water of the Ord river



سربان ہل ایبٹ آباد شہر کے پیچھے ایک لمبا پہاڑ ہے جو مری روڈ سے شروع ہوتا ہے اور حویلیاں کے قریب ختم ہوتا ہے۔

پہاڑی درحقیقت متعدد پہاڑیوں کا جوڑ ہے جو مشرق اور جنوب میں دریائے ڈور، مغرب میں قومی شاہراہ اور شمال میں مری روڈ سے گھری ہوئی ہے۔ پہاڑیوں میں کئی گاؤں اور مستقل بستیاں، جیپ سڑکیں اور متعدد موبائل/ریڈیو کھمبے ہیں۔

راجہ رسالو کے غار کسی حد تک پہاڑی کے وسط میں اور ایک گاؤں کے قریب ہیں۔ ان کے ساتھ طویل افسانے جڑے ہوئے ہیں جن کی وضاحت میں آخر میں کروں گا، پہلے ہائیک کی تفصیل۔

ٹریک اور راجہ رسالو کے غاروں کے لیے کئی راستے ہیں لیکن چونکہ ہم ایبٹ آباد اور دریائے ڈور کے پہاڑوں اور دلکش نظاروں سے لطف اندوز ہونا چاہتے تھے اس لیے ہم نے مری روڈ کے قریب پہاڑی کے آغاز سے ہی ٹریک کا آغاز کیا۔

مری روڈ پر کالا پل، اس میں چھونا روڈ ہے جہاں سے ہم نے ٹریک شروع کیا تھا (یہ BISE ایبٹ آباد کے قریب ہے)۔ ہمیں بتایا گیا کہ چھونا روڈ پر پارکنگ محفوظ نہیں ہے اس لیے قریبی شیل/PSO اسٹیشن پر پارک کرنا بہتر ہے۔

وہاں سے آپ پہاڑی پر پیدل سفر شروع کرتے ہیں اور کچھ ہی دیر میں آپ کو یہ خیال آتا ہے کہ ہائیک آپ کو دلکش نظارے پیش کرے گی کیونکہ آپ کو ایبٹ آباد شہر کے 270 ڈگری کے نظارے ملتے ہیں جو بہت دور تک پھیلا ہوا ہے۔
آپ کو سربن پہاڑی کی پچھلی طرف کان کنی ، دوسری پہاڑی پر پانی کی صفائی کے ٹینک اور بہت سے گاؤں دیکھنے کو ملتے ہیں۔
رج کی پیروی کریں اور آپ گاؤں، کھیل کے میدان اور پہاڑی پر موجود ان تمام "Piffer" نشانوں سے گزریں گے جو آپ سڑکوں سے دیکھتے ہیں۔

ٹریک پر پانی کا کوئی ذریعہ نہیں ہے، لیکن آپ ٹریک پر گھروں سے پانی مانگ سکتے ہیں۔ یہاں دو مساجد بھی ہیں اور ایک جگہ ایک جنرل اسٹور بھی ہے (وہ ایک چوراہا ہے جو آپ کو فوارہ چوک کی طرف بھی لے جاتا ہے)۔

آپ پہاڑی کی دوسری طرف بھی دیکھ سکتے ہیں جہاں دریائے ڈور اور میرانجانی (ایبٹ آباد کا سب سے اونچا پہاڑ) ہے۔
کچھ موڑ مشکل تھے لیکن میں نے ان سب کو نشان زد کرنے کی کوشش کی تاکہ پیروی کرنا آسان ہو۔
آپ مقامی لوگوں سے بھی پوچھ سکتے ہیں جو بہت اچھے اور مددگار ہیں۔
زیادہ تر ٹریک پر موبائل سگنلز دستیاب ہیں۔

آخر میں آپ اس گاؤں تک پہنچ جائیں گے جہاں غار ہے۔ غار گاؤں سے نیچے 2 منٹ کی پیدل سفر پر ہے اور یہ ایک کونے میں ہے لہذا آپ اسے تب ہی دیکھ سکتے ہیں جب آپ اس کے سامنے ہوں۔



غار میں داخل ہونے کے لیے آپ کو صرف 5 سیکنڈ کے لیے رینگنا ہوگا۔ کیونکہ اس کا داخلی راستہ تنگ ہے۔ لیکن یہ سرنگ نہیں ہے اس لیے پریشان ہونے کی ضرورت نہیں۔ غار چھوٹی ہے لیکن اس میں 20 افراد آسانی سے جمع سکتے ہیں۔ اس کے سرے پر یہ 5 فٹ گہرا ہے، تاہم یہ 20-30 فٹ لمبا ہے۔ غار کے اندر ہمیشہ اندھیرا رہتا ہے اس لیے ٹارچ کا ہیڈ لیمپ ساتھ لے جائیں۔

واپسی پر اسی گاؤں سے ہم نے سلہاد جانے کا شارٹ کٹ لیا۔ یہ بہت ہی کھڑا راستہ تھا جسے ہم نے لیا لیکن چونکہ اس پر اترتے ہوئے اس سے زیادہ فرق نہیں پڑا۔ ہم جی ٹی پہنچ گئے۔ہم نے فوارہ چوک تک پہنچنے کے لیے پک اپ میں لفٹ لی اور بعد میں کار پارکنگ کے لیے دوسری پک اپ لی۔

افسوس کی بات ہے کہ ایبٹ آباد میں Bikea سواروں کی تعداد زیادہ نہیں ہے۔


اب راجہ رسالو غاروں کی تاریخ / افسانہ


راجہ رسالو قبل مسیح میں ریاست سیالکوٹ کا راجہ تھا اور موجودہ ہزارہ، چھچھ اور پوٹھوہار کا علاقہ اسکے زیر نگیں تھے۔ راجہ رسالو ایک مہم جو اور نڈر حکمران تھا جو سرکش دیوؤں کی سرکوبی کرتے ہوئے اس علاقے تک پہنچا اور سربن پہاڑ پہ اپنی رانی کوکلاں کے ساتھ بسیرا کیا۔ رانی کوکلاں کی خود سوزی کے بعد راجہ رسالو نے غار کے دہانے پہ ایک بڑا پتھر رکھ کر اسے بند کر دیا اور اس علاقے سے کوچ کر گیا۔

کھلابٹ کے مقام پہ جو پتھر ہے وہ راجہ رسالو کا ایک دیو کو اپنی غلیل سے مارا ہوا (رنجاٹہ) ہے۔ ہری پور میں کافر کوٹ کے مقام پہ ایک اور غار واقع ہے جسے دیؤ کا غار کہا جاتا ہے، راجہ رسالو نے آخری بچ جانے والے دیو کو اس غار میں زندہ قید کر دیا تھا۔

یاد رہے سربن پہاڑ اس شہر کی تاریخ میں ایک مثالی حیثیت رکھتا ہے۔ اس پہاڑ کے دامن میں میدان رش (وادی اورش) کسی زمانے میں ایک جھیل تھی۔ سولہویں صدی کے اواخر میں گردونواح کے پہاڑوں پہ آباد کاری کرنے والے جدون قبائل نے درکن کے مقام پہ سربن پہاڑ کو کھود کر جھیل سے نکاسی آب کا راستہ بنایا، پانی کے تیز بہاؤ سے ایک گہری کھائی وجود میں آئی جسکا نام 'دیو دی ٹہنڈ' پڑ گیا۔ جس راستے سے پانی وادی سے باہر نکلا اسے جب کٹھہ کہا جاتا ہے۔ جو اب ایبٹ آباد کے گٹروں کے گندے پانی کو دریائے دوڑ کے صاف شفاف پانی میں ملاتا ہے
