Itinerary description
One classical hike in Sto. Antao, from Ponta do Sol to Cruzinha da Garza. Dramatic cliffs over the Atlantic, small villages perching on impossible places and sheer feeling of loneliness. It takes 3 1/2-4 1/2 hours, depending on your fitness. Northern exposure will protect you from the tropical sun most of the way. Start from central Ponta do Sol, heading southwest and looking for the cliffs. If arriving from Ribeira Grande, get off the aluger at the first church, before driving downtown. The way up to Formiguinhas is wide enough for a 4WD, but leave that for the disabled. You will arrive there along vegetable gardens and papaya trees. The village is in a dramatic location and has a grocer (mercearia); make up your water reserve. There is a nice-looking bar in Corvo, but it was shut at the time. You reach this village walking over a flooded taro garden, on the river bed. Formiguinhas has a small bar that caters for organized groups. There are no more villages in the remaining two thirds of the trail. You will only come along water springs in poor sanitary condition. The abandoned village of Cha de Mar gives the utmost impression of solitude. A little further there is a critical point for vertigo sufferers, the path climbs straight up, sandwiched between the cliff and the ocean. Then, Praia da Ribeira Seca, the only beach in the way; but the Atlantic didn't look safe at all. The arrival in Cruzinha is uninspiring. Sonafish is a convenient place to wait for your aluger.

We did the walk the other way around and it is a really beautiful walk. Since there is no other way to go, the route is easy to follow.
Hola ... que tal el camino ?? Es muy técnico !? O solo tiene de dificultad el desnivel ??
Hoy hemos hecho esta ruta, todo estupendo y fantásticos paisajes!
