Itinerary description

Video on my YouTube Channel of this off track hike: https://youtu.be/Dj2aOI4-yD8

What a great little rockhopping Waterfall adventure! Start at Mt Tamborine Rd - Sandy Creek entry. Follow all the way up. You will cross so many micro-falls and 3 large falls.

The first main waterfall is considered Lower Cameron Falls. You will need to skirt around to the left to ascend to the top. Be careful here, it is very steep but there are sufficient handholds. Continuing on you'll come across Cameron Cascading Falls. And then finally will come up to the wonderous Cameron Falls. Beautiful, simply beautiful. Surrounded by sheer cliffs - I could both hear and see people up top who were probably checking me out too!

I went up behind Cameron Falls and tried skirting off to the leftside hoping to ascend to the top of the cliff faces (and get to The Knoll picnic area up top) however all along the base of the cliffs it is filled with the largest lantana plants I've seen in a long while, and very high with large open boulders underneath the foliage making it quite dangerous to attempt. Basically it was impossible (and I don't give up easily), and so I had to turn back to the falls.

I tried to skirt uphill again a little further downstream, went up quite high until the same impossible lantana overgrowth. Back down to the creek line I went. I returned to Lower Cameron Falls, and took an eastern route called "Waterfall Break", with the hope of following it up to where it intersects with the Knoll walking track.... however this "break" trail was absolutely overgrown with massive Farmer's Prickle plants, was quite unbelievable to be honest.... and I came to decide I had quite enough of being covered with the demonic prickles. If there was any trail here at one point, it was most certainly gone and totally overgrown.

I returned to the Sandy Creek line once again, and continued back along to the start point. At the beginning of the creek line is an overturned vehicle with police tape around it. At this point, the vehicle has been here for around 4 months and doesn't look like it'll be removed anytime soon. It is out of sight of public traffic, and therefore out of mind. It is now part of the creek system, lol.

Numerous large tree spiders all along the creek rock boulders. I have a video specifically on these Arachnids on my Channel you may find interesting. Also came across a large Water Dragon lizard - we eyeballed one another for a time, and when I got closer it did a superman leap into the creek, ran across the water like Jesus until he sank (because he ain't anything like Jesus), swam downstream a little thanks to the current, and then simply climbed up a wet slimy boulder like it was nothing. I'm amazing at the grip these lizards have! Nil snakes which absolutely surprised me considering where I was traversing.

Overall, a great creek line to explore if you're up for it. Obviously, it is off track, and loads of rock hopping, so if you're ankles ain't good, don't do it or you'll break what movement you've got left. I rate this as difficult if you're not a confident rock hopper, otherwise you'll find it enjoyable and not that hard. That doesn't mean easy, and yes, you will be in pain afterwards. Happy hiking!

I’ve been in and out via the cliffs a few times now. There is lots of lantana but definitely a couple of ways 👍
