The trail is beautifull and you have some amazing views down to the river.
My gps in the end said that the distance is longer and it took us more than 4 hours to get to Altos de los Idolos as the bath is not that great. As it was quite rainy during my stay in San Agustin we hiked with gummi boots.

This is a terrific trail, especially as the route down to the river and up on the other side is a true footpath and not simply a track shared with cars and motorcycles, as seems to be the case with other San Agustin routes.
It had rained quite heavily the previous day. Sections of the trail were wet and muddy, but we managed happily in our medium-weight hiking shoes. The path in the valley is narrow and vegetation overhangs, so some walkers might prefer to wear long trousers rather than shorts. Crossing the covered bridge over the river is an adventure. And arriving at Alto de los Idolos on foot from San Agustin delivers a great sense of achievement.
