I have known Samu since March 2019.
We met on a beginner hike at Wadi helo with Sam's free group and then we built our friendship by hiking frequently, sometimes with groups but most of the time only two of us.
We explored a few places, we did some challenging hikes, followed many trails, merged a few of them, created many of our own and at the end we became mountain brothers.
We have hiked 60 recorded trails in a matter of 18 months.
Now in September 2022, Samu has decided to move on and depart from UAE for better prospects.
So I decided to give him a fitting farewell, of course where else !!
A mountain in Ras al Khaimah.
So we hiked up the famous 1000 steps (to hell as mentioned by someone) of Hebs trail from Wadi Haqab and descended into Wadi Bih making it a one way hike.
As this is one way hike, we parked cars at both ends.
We parked here for the descent segment.

This trail is less popular as compared to the other trails in Jebel Jais area. Its a well laid path with a number of stairs from the Wadi Haqab all the way up to the mountain plateau leading to Hebs Village.
The hike is scenic once you reach the top plateau at 800 meters elevation with views of Yabana mountain, Rahabah mountain, Jebel Jais summit and Jebel Qadaah from close proximity.
This trail is definitely good for endurance as it has good amount of elevation gain over a short distance. You gain 600 meters elevation in 2.7 Kms distance. Most of this ascent trail is manmade rocky steps and stable path.
I have recorded the offroad path from Jais road to this Trailhead as below.
It will help you to access the start point.

Reaching to the trailhead is bit tricky.
(Refer Photo-6 for the driving / parking info)
You have to turn right from the Jebel Jais road at 25.800469, 56.099167

You can see a Mobile phone tower very closeby here.
From here, get into the off-road (sedan drivable) after about 100m turn left and merge into another off-road which is parallel to the wadi.
About 150 meters away, you can see an elevated while painted water tank, you can take this is a waypoint.
You continue driving about 1km, you can see a Military camera station as soon as you pass the camera there is a small building and you can park next to it 25.806622, 56.112798.
There you can see the well laid trail path with steps.
The first 2.5km is the tough part with continuous elevation gain (about 600m).
Then its is like gradual stroll for about 1 km towards Hebs village ( We didnt go till there )
We made our summit at the Solo house on the mountain plateau with impressive views of Jebel Qadaah.
We didn't see anyone in the village except some goats :)
The hike is scenic once you reach the top plateau at 800 meters elevation with views of Yabana mountain, Rahabah mountain, Jebel Jais summit and Jebel Qadaah from close proximity.
We descended back from the village is through the same way back for about 1 km, and then we turned right on the trail fork to turn towards Wadi Bih. The trail here is very well laid ( no more stone steps) but steep down. It is well visible, used by humans and donkeys.
This steep path eventually will lead to the Wadi Bih village ( near the Bih road round about ).
This Wadi is narrow and its possible that you may be saved from direct sunlight.
Overall this hike is best for good Cardio workout, good elevation gain over short distance and some of the best views from the plateau.
Stay safe, enjoy Hiking.

Is the hike at all precipitous? At any point do you feel close to a steep edge or incline?
Do you require a 4x4? Can a sedan get close to the stair start?
Hello Alice,
Please note that this is a one way hike, so you need 2 cars or you need to walk a long flat road for about 4 kms to connect to the start point.
You could also come back to the start point after reaching this trail summit house.
This hike is very safe, with proper trail and manmade stone steps. At no point you will feel any danger.
The Stairs side of Wadi Haqab, the access road is bit rough, but a high clearance / standard sedan will reach with due diligence.
Please read the trail details text for more info.

Thank you so much. We intended to park at the bottom and go up and down. So there’s a 4km walk to the base of the stairs from where you leave the car?
You misunderstood.
On this trail, the distance between start and end points is about 4kms.
The car can be parked at the start of the trail
Hi Alice,
This particular hike has trail and steps most of the part, very safe. No exposed areas.
Pls note its a one way hike, so need 2 cars
Near the stairs end a high clearance Sedan will do or else you need to walk about 1 kms more.
Thanks a lot! Much appreciated!
So we tried to do this today and could find the road that leaves jais to the trailhead… any advice or guidance as to where we turn off since we spent 1hr searching! Many thanks
If you read my previous replies above and text in this post, you would have found it.
Picture 6 has proper guidance.
I had also mentioned the details in above replies
If that were the case, as you said, I would have found it. I spent an hour trying to using coordinates from several sources and the picture unfortunately didn’t prove useful. Thank you, however for belittling my intellect.
Alice, looks like something is wrong.
I have provided the right coordinate where to take exit from Jais road.

From this point, the Picture #6 has clear markings drawn on it.
I am talking about the 6th picture on this post, not the waypoint / embedded picture.
Unfortunately I cant attach the picture here.
That picture has satellite view of the area, and distance marked with helpful point to turn and drive etc
Hope this helps may be ?
Thank you, I guess I’ll give it another go next week! 🙏🏼
By the way, I did not belittle your intellect, I wouldnt because I was not there during your attempt to find the way.
The purpose of my posts is to make fellow hikers life easier in having a better experience.
I try to give as many inputs as possible.
Thank you for expressing your opinion.
I just felt undermined which is frustrating when you’ve spent a long time trying to navigate the best you can. Even now, I have no idea when to turn off the road, looking at google maps and trying to fathom the turnoff and how we missed it? I wish these things were marked to make life a lot easier and save people who are precious of time from wasting it! 😞
I suggest you contact me on 0503838630.
I can explain better, if needed.
By the way Alice, I will be in that area tomorrow.
I will make it a point to drive that path (offroad as explained above), record on wikiloc and share with you here.
Hope I remember.
Thanks a million!! If you can make a short video or take a picture at the point you leave jais road in order to better track I’d be so grateful! Really appreciate this gesture because I’m so desperate to try this hike with my father whilst he’s here and it was so heartbreaking to drive all that way and miss out!
Please check the access road wikiloc I have recorded today.

Thanks a lot! I did WhatsApp you but I’m not sure if it was received?
Thanks Vijay for route map, guidelines and specific directions to the start.
We enjoyed the trek last Sunday.
Hello Rajesh,
Its a pleasure for me to contribute as much as possible to record, describe and guide fellow hikers.
We hiked this particular trail as a farewell to my long time hiking buddy Samu and planned it as a one way hike.
I am glad that my post was of your assistance and you enjoyed this hike.
Keep hiking !
