Itinerary description

This meandering path is un-blazed and is maintained mostly by the wandering feeting of the rock-climbers who are almost always present on any nice weekend. The most used section of the trail starts at the spot marked "trailhead" and loops around the Throne before returning the same way, but there is plenty more to see by following the eastern leg on the return from the Throne, though the trail is rougher there. The ascent to the top of the Throne is also optional, but well worth it.

There is also a FS road that they mostly use to rescue injured climbers that starts at the alternate parking (N35° 52.359 W93° 02.565) area and intersects the trail between the Throne and the main bluff. It's an easier hike, but you miss out on the caves and close-up views of the bluff.

Ascent Access

For those without special rock-climbing gear there is a steep crack at the back of the Throne than allows walking access to within ten feet of the summit. A short, fairly easy scramble will get you the last ten feet to a wonderful picnicing spot.

Climber's Parking

This area is generally saved for the rock-climbers so they don't have to walk the road with all their gear. From here just follow the road back to the main entry.

Drop down

When you work your way around the top of the bluff-line first like I did this is the first place you come to that allows a scrmble down to the base of the bluff without real rock-climbing. There are no markers.

Hiker's Parking

The parking nearer the bluff is reserved for the rock-climbing crowd by common convention and this is a shorter walk to the most used trailhead anyway. Don't park in the small area directly across from the trailhead as this is the parking for the campsite. (unless of course you are camping there.)

Trailhead

The white reflectors leading through this campsite and down to a gap in the bluff are the only only markers along the route around the bottom of the bluff.
