Itinerary description
Salt Creek Loop from the American River Canyon Hikes book, with pretty side trip across knickerbocker creek that is not in the book, instead of the shorter Cave Valley road on the return. Parking behind the fire station costs $10, there may be free options nearby. Called it Moderate because the uphill from the river comes all at once, length, and navigating an unmarked trail system after crossing knickerbocker creek on the side trip. Parts of the trail were still pretty muddy about a week after rain. Lots of side trails to explore.
