Itinerary description
This is a fantastic place to watch birds. Plus there’s a darling little pond filled with frogs and turtles. In the Spring, the yellow irises abound!!!
This recording starts and stops outside the park on the residential street directly before you enter thru the kiosk which then gives you hills going in and coming back out. If you don’t want hills, drive-in thru the kiosk ($10 or State Pass) and park in the lots down by the pond, the boat launch, or the port-a-potty.
This is an easy area to hike ... no possibility of getting lost as the whole park is contained by streets or homes on three sides and the American River on the fourth. Lots of intersecting trails offer many areas to explore.
The side-trip at mile 1.1 was simply to get another hill climb in. The side-trip at mile 1.4 was to see what was back there and can easily be left out as it dead-ends in a little ravine at the base of the housing development above.
