Itinerary description

Day two of a six day hike known as the Saghro Traverse. Much more scenic on day 2 of the hike. We had intended to detour into the small village of Tagmout but it was not obvious/visible, did not appear on our maps and we were past it before we knew it. There is very little signage of any kind for this trip. You will need gps, good maps and navigation skills or hire an experienced guide.

The morning took us through a pass followed by a quick trip down into a valley and back up the other side. The path was unclear at points, a hill top view allowed us to spot a piste and get us back on to a well worn path.

We chose to stay on the road (piste) into the village of Assaka N'Ait Ouzzine, our destination for the day. There is an alternate route to the north that takes you around the other side of a rounded mountain and goes right past a ruined Kasbah (marked as IFrane on our map). We followed the road into town, went past a second kasbah and camped on the far side of Assaka on the bank of the river that feeds the town.

Not much chance for obtaining any food or refreshments here, maybe some bread and mint tea. Locals were harvesting (shelling?) almonds they got from the nearby orchards.

Tomorrow's hike is: Saghro day 3

This one had a good rope attached. We had a full load so we didn't need any water from here.

The road provides you with a great view of the ruined Kasbah and the alternate route that takes you around the north side of a large hill is also visible.
