Itinerary description
The Saaltjie hike starts at the main gate and ascends up mountain bike tracks and jeep tracks until you reach the top of the saddle. The hike does not require special hiking skills, however, the last section is a rocky road and the trail is slippery in places. The views from the summit are the reward. You can see Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and even Cape Town. On the way back to the start, we chose a route that went through vast pine tree plantations, which provided shade. Overall a great hike, but may be quite challenging for beginners.
