Ruta Ermita de San Roque – Alpujata, Monda
This walk starts off at the Iglesia de Santiago Apostol, (The Church of the Apostle James). The walk heads out of Monda Village passing the Jaula Fountain. The road goes under the A355 and then you turn left which takes you parallel to the Alcazarain River and the Mountains known locally as Cerro Gordo, which is an almost impregnable massive block of stone covered in Pine forests. At an intersection staying on the right, you will eventually come to a picnic area with a football field on your left. Turning right at the picnic area you will arrive at the San Roque Ermita religious site. A good spot to have a break.
Passing the Football field is a small Plain called the Alpujata, where local vegetables are grown. At the intersection turn left and head back to the village. I usually end the walk at the Bar Los Carboneros where the Tapas are really nice.
