Itinerary description

This hike follows the Ruta del Ter; in its entirety, the Ruta del Ter is a well-marked GR trail that leads over footpaths and country roads along the banks of the Ter River, through farmland and over rocky ridges. The Ter River Valley has a rich history in industrial colonies and you'll encounter many of these historical landmarks along the way.

This hike begins in Ripoll, it heads down-river along the banks of the Ter River and passes by the Colònia de Santa Maria just outside of Ripoll. Then it turns eastward to meet the Riera de Vallfogona climbing forest roads above the valley and descending to the southwest where the Vallfogona meets meets the Riera de Llaés. There is an excellent spot to swim here in the confluence of the two rivers - if you dare (it's cold!). Then the trail passes by the Ermita de Sant Moí, the old industrial colony of la Farga de Bebié and the Castell de Montesquiu before arriving at Sant Quirze de Besora.
