Itinerary description
Steep ascension 2km and then gradual decline until the trail flattens out and remains fairly even for the duration. The valley is astounding. Plenty of stops needed for soaking in the staggering mountain scene and of course photos too. Not much shade on the trail but a few tunnels here and there and some trees scattered along the track to provide some respite on a blue sky day. The valley is jaw droppingly steep and no rail so it pays to keep away from the edge if vulnerable to vertigo, otherwise thrilling. You are up with the mountain gods - they do feel like this. After 10km arrived to a very welcome sight - rock pools. The mountain water trickling into these pools is cool and refreshing (particularly for the feet, it was hot!) Not to mention the insane 360 views of the jagged peaks around you! I understand why this walk is said to be Europe's finest. But "nothing good comes easy".
