Itinerary description

🇪🇸 Español: Ruta circular de unos 10km que pasa primero por la Vía Ferrata de La Cantera (K3), sube hasta la cima de Font de Cabres y baja por la rute de la Guerra Civil. Esta ruta está situada en la localidad de La Vilavella, en Castellón.

Desde Valencia, se llega fácilmente en unos 40 minutos. Es fácil aparcar, ya que hay sitios en la vía pública y la aproximación es rápida, 5 minutos desde el sitio donde aparcamos hasta el inicio de la vía ferrata, y de hecho, de nuestra ruta.

Tramo 1: La Vía Ferrata (opcional)
Tener en cuenta que esta ruta se puede hacer aún si no llevas material para ferrata o si simplemente no te apetece hacerla. Hay senderos para llegar arriba a las ruinas del castillo y desde ahí continuar la ruta.

La vía ferrata se encuentra detrás del polideportivo del pueblo. Para entrar, hay que pasar por dos portales. Si están cerrados, se puede llamar al bar del polideportivo o a la policía local (625 101 002).

La vía ferrata en sí está bien hecha, con suficientes grapas. Hay un puente monocable y uno tibetano, ambos cortitos. También hay un tramo lateral con ligero desplome, y otros dos desplomes leves al llegar al final de la vía.

Después de pasar los puentes tendremos la opción de seguir subiendo o bajar algunos peldaños para llegar a la reunión del rapel. El rapel es de 24 metros totalmente volado. Nosotros decidimos subir directamente hacia el final, pero se podría bajar en rápel y volver a subir, ya que el final del rápel se encuentra a unos metros del inicio de la vía ferrata.

Tramo 2: La subida hasta el Pico de Font de Cabres
El tramo más largo de esta ruta, y también el más difícil, ya que acumulamos el desnivel. La mayor parte de este tramo se hace por pista forestal / senda ancha, en subida. El último kilómetro se hace por sendero de montaña, con un desnivel pronunciado. La llegada a la cima es gloriosa y las vistas son especulares.

Tramo 3: Pico de Font de Cabres - Creu de Ferro
El descenso del pico de Font de Cabres es difícil y hay que tener mucho cuidado. Hay mucha pedrera y instalaron cuerdas para pasar un largo tramo expuesto. Sin embargo, el entorno y el camino son bonitos.

Tramo 4: La Ruta de la Guerra Civil
Este tramo nos encantó ya que pasas por lugares históricos, muy bien conservados. Trincheras, refugios y otras ruinas. Es impresionante lo que se puede ver en pocos kilómetros.

Esta ruta es muy entretenida, con una variedad de paisajes muy bonitos. La consideramos moderado-difícil, por la vía ferrata, el desnivel y la bajada con tramos expuestos. Se puede hacer solo senderismo, llegando caminando al Castillo que está encima de la vía ferrata. 🇺🇸 English: Circular route of about 10km that first passes through the Via Ferrata de La Cantera (K3), goes up to the top of Font de Cabres and down the rute of the Civil War. This route is located in the town of La Vilavella, in Castellón.

From Valencia, it is easily reached in about 40 minutes. It is easy to park, as there are places on the public road and the approach is quick, 5 minutes from the place where we parked to the beginning of the via ferrata, and in fact, of our route.

Section 1: The Via Ferrata (optional)
Note that this route can be done even if you don't have ferrata equipment or if you just don't feel like doing it. There are trails to reach the ruins of the castle and from there continue the route.

The via ferrata is located behind the sports center of the village. To enter, you have to pass through two gates. If they are closed, you can call the bar of the sports center or the local police (625 101 002).

The via ferrata itself is well made, with enough clamps. There is a monocable bridge and a Tibetan bridge, both of which are short. There is also a lateral section with a slight overhang, and two other slight overhangs at the end of the route.

After passing the bridges we will have the option to continue climbing or to descend some steps to reach the belay station of the rappel. The rappel is 24 meters long and completely overhanging. We decided to climb directly to the end, but you could rappel down and climb back up, since the end of the rappel is a few meters from the beginning of the via ferrata.

Section 2: The ascent to the Font de Cabres Peak
The longest section of this route, and also the most difficult, as we accumulate the difference in altitude. Most of this section is done by forest track / wide path, uphill. The last kilometer is on a mountain trail, with a steep slope. The arrival at the summit is glorious and the views are spectacular.

Section 3: Font de Cabres - Creu de Ferro peak
The descent of the Font de Cabres peak is difficult and you have to be very careful. There is a lot of rock and they installed ropes to pass a long exposed stretch. However, the environment and the path are beautiful.

Section 4: The Civil War Route
We loved this section because you pass through historic places, very well preserved. Trenches, shelters and other ruins. It is impressive what you can see in a few kilometers.

This route is very entertaining, with a variety of beautiful landscapes. We consider it moderate-difficult, because of the via ferrata, the slope and the descent with exposed sections. 🇪🇸 Aquí tenemos dos opciones:

Seguir subiendo. Lo que hacemos nosotros ya que seguiremos con la ruta.
Bajar en rápel (24m volado). Se puede bajar en rápel y subir de nuevo la vía ferrata, ya que el rápel acaba a unos metros del inicio de la vía ferrata.

Descend by rappel (24m flown). You can rappel down and climb back up the via ferrata, as the rappel stops a few meters from the beginning of the via ferrata.

🇪🇸 Aquí nos equivocamos ya que al inicio seguimos el cartel que ponía "Font de Cabres". Es una senda bien trazada pero sin desnivel. Volvemos atrás y vimos esta senda, con pedrera, que sube hasta el Pico de Font de Cabres! Es fácil equivocarse.

🇺🇸 Here we made a mistake because at the beginning we followed the sign that said "Font de Cabres". It is a well traced path but without slope. We turned back and saw another path, with a rocky section, that goes up to the Pico de Font de Cabres! It is easy to make a mistake.
