Itinerary description

Just a discovery tour around Stolberg with its historic medieval castle, starting from a carpark near one of the railway stations, Muhlener Bahnhof.

It was obvious to us that Stolberg town in the Aachen city region had also, sadly, been hit by last year's July floods as there were lots of people actively repairing and reconstructing their homes and shops on the streets located in the lower parts of the town. In the historic part around the castle and the cobbled streets there were hardly any signs of this at all.

Although this trail will not end up in a top ten list (due to its crossing some uninteresting parts in town), it gave us a good impression of the impressive Stolberg borough and its surroundings: a valley, forest paths and broad meadow landscapes, offering wonderful panoramic views over the historic parts of Stolberg city and its castle.

Along the way we came across signs of the "copper trail", Kupfer route, 16 kms, starting from a square at the bottom of the castle, perhaps an idea for a next time visit.
