Itinerary description

A favourite 11 km loop hike with varied terrain, lake, creeks, waterfall, ruins, views and more. Noted as difficult only because of length and a number of trail intersections. The time didn’t seem to record right. This travel time is usually around four hours or slightly more for this route.

Looking back across field from lookout. Dirt road from here will take you back to Santa Rosa. Ruins are another hour following dirt road to left until further turn off.

Good sense of more rugged terrain found in this area.

Alternate rout back to the presa.

Instead of heading to ruins and this long loop, instead of heading back down the valley and creek, a good trail follows the hill well above the creek (to the left or north). This results in a wonderful 90 minute hike in this area with great views and interesting terrain.

It is possible continuing straight will also end up connecting further down the valley.

Possible ancient metate?

There are scratches on the sides that could indicate human activity. This immediate area could easily have been a temporary settlement…lots of water and meadows.
