Itinerary description
Start s. Lomnica - Rudoka - Crno Ezero - s. Lomnica.
Lomnica is accessable by car, road is ok. You will find water in the village.
Rudoka is peak on Šar massive. It is located on border line between Makedonija and Kosovo. It was considered as highest peak of Kosovo on border line and Gjeravica as entirely on Kosovo teritory.
Avoid this route in summer and in hot weather. There is not enough water towards Rudoka, this is why we decided to descent to Crno Ezero, to refill water and refresh in the lake but descent from Crno Ezero to Lomnica was horror. Tall gras, very steep terrain, no water till you enter forest. Ideal period for the route would be late Sep. or Oct.
You will see that there are some marks but very chaotic, no chance you can follow them.

Hi Sibel, is it ok and safe to park a car in Lomnica? Can you recomend some parking coordinates? Thanks
Hello, yes, it is safe to park at village entrance, we stared several trails from Lomnica past 2 years and we never had any issues with locals, in few ocasions they offered coffee. I hope you will have the same experiance as I did. The only thing to worry about on this area are shepard dogs which you can met on some points of the trail.

Next year I intend to climb the peaks of Mount Korab i Rudoka e madhe from Macedonia, can you tell me which is the closest place where I can find accommodation.
In several forums and in your post it is also reported that you have to be careful with sheepdogs.
What is the attitude to take if we encounter one?
For dogs it is best to move in group, they are unpredictable, if there is a human with them he will control them but if he's away from them than they can be very dangerous, I tried to feed them and it doesn't work. We carried gun(with license) and shoot in the air, but for you this is not an option. For accomodation, unfortunately we do not have mountain hits or tea houses on our mountains as other countries, so it really depends on your budget and on what you need. In Mavrovo (close to Korab) you can find restaurants, market and gas station. Trnica hotel is closer but it is restaurant and hotel only. For Rudoka, our start was from Lomnica village, I haven't heard anyone is offering stay there so for this probably is the best to stay in Tetovo or Gostivar as it is located near to this two cities.

To climb Mount Korab and Rudoka, what dates do you recommend that are not too hot or too cold?
Hi, For Korab best time is Sep./Oct. road in Sep. to Strezimir (start point) is fixed by the Army due to Independence Day organized hike, so this time of the year you can for sure get to Strezimir by car, otherwise it could not be possible. For Rudoka it depends what would be your start point, but it is doable during entire year. The routes that I have recorded are done in summer trough summer paths, they are not appropriate for winter conditions if there is a snow due to possibility of avalanche. During summer the only danger are shepherd dogs that can be aggressive, therefore again Sep/Oct should be the safest period. Good luck!
