Itinerary description

This hike circles the working Ruckle Heritage farm in the Provincial park of the same name. The first half is along the coast and the rest is through the forest surrounding the farm.

The shoreline stretch looks out onto a busy shipping channel, with many boats passing by - it is the sea route of mainland & Gulf Island ferries. The hike's return point is a great spot for lunch, looking over to Pender, Mayne and Galiano Islands. (note: we did lose the trail just after the 6th waypoint and had to backtrack a bit)

Return is through a mature maple and cedar forest. Some of the trees here are huge! Skirting the farm, you are likely to see sheep and cattle. On the day of this hike we also saw goats and turkeys!

There are toilets at the trailhead and also at the heritage farm

The Retreads Hiking Club gives this hike an AVA rating of 2C.

We went a little further past this point and found that the trail was not any more rugged than what we had already experienced. It probably changes to "rugged" further on.

This is the turn to go back around the other side of the farm. We went past this a short way to a nice spot for lunch.
