Itinerary description
Day too began where we left off at Overland Lake. Just a few miles north of the lake we passed a beautiful waterfall. In Nevada it is something truly amazing to see. This part of the trail is the first section that truly is along the crest and as such the views are breathtaking. However, be advised there is about an 8 to 10 mile section with no water. Be sure to bring some and I would advise treating and topping off your water bottles at the waterfall or the next stream after the waterfall. Near the north end of this section of trail we dropped into a beautiful canyon. Several small glacial carved lakes were scattered about and there were several creeks. I would like to come back to this area to just camp and get away for a little bit. Finally on we went to Castle Lake to camp. Castle lake is about .5 miles off the Crest Trail and requires an elevation gain of about 500 feet. Its another beautiful lake and worth the little extra effort to get there.
