Itinerary description
Nice half day loop to round top mountain in the sierra nevada. Starting from the carson pass parking, the trail crosses Frog lake and the large Winnemucca lake. Caples lake is seen from a distance. From Winnemucca its a short climb to round top lake. From the lake, a bunch of "social" trails climb steeply to round top mountain. The last section is a scramble (strenuous, nothing dangerous), I returned half way due to uncomfortable conditions (strong wind). The views from the way up are very nice - from round top lake close-by to Caples lake a few miles north-west and lake Tahoe far north. I hiked back through woods like and some old mines which was nice. The last part, however, from woods campsite to carson pass was untamed.
