Itinerary description

Roque de Abinque and Montaña Carrasco stand on either side of the head of the Barraco del Infierno, high above the waterfall that signals the end of the barranco walk from Adeje. Above the waterfall, the barranco continues into the mountains, although the section above the falls is known as the Barranco de La Fuente. Today, I set out to climb both summits and set off in the quiet of the early morning from Ifonche, under a beautiful, blue Canarian sky. The walk to Roque de Abinque was quite easy and I was soon on the top looking down to the coast and at the surrounding mountains. Retracing my steps, I reached the path towards the more imposing peak of Montaña Carrasco and was soon scrambling up to the summit plateau. The view from the top was simply sensational, with the whole of Roque de Abinque now visible in a superb 360 degree panorama. Having descended, I followed a path below reddish-brown cliffs to the Cueva de La Estancia with it's stone walls and gate. This cave was once home to a local family who lived here with their many children and after a brief pause to have a look around, I continued, passing the Fuente El Chorillo spring, the water trickling from the rocks creating a greener, lusher oasis in the rocky terrain. My next objective was the rocky outcrop of the Nariz de Garcia or Garcia's nose, from where I had more excellent views. After another short break on the top, I returned along the rural lane to Ifonche and my car after 5 hours of spectacular walking.
