Itinerary description
What a magnificent area this is ! The combination of heathland, moorland, swamp areas, forests, woodland and meadows makes it a wonderful hike through an area that you don't want to leave at the end of the day.
We started out from the carpark next to the church in the village of Swolgen, a peaceful little village. There are however other carparks we came across, busier. Especially along Horsterweg we saw lots of cars being parked just on the side of the road. Here Staatsbosbeheer has put in place an information panel with 3 signposted trails of differing lengths. Among them is the so-called Schuitwater route, so this could be another option if you're interested in a shorter walk.
All in all, highly recommended to explore this area in the north of Limburg province!
