Itinerary description
Herperduin, part of "de Maashorst" national park, located east of the town of Oss, is a beloved spot for young families, even in winter. It seems to have the perfect mix for a day trip with its adventurous playground for young and old, as well as its tall 360 degrees viewing platform and an extensive, lovely fen surrounded by shallow sandy shores. In other words, plenty of things to do.
For some the cosy restaurant with nearby parking facilities is the main draw, open even in corona times for coffee-to-go and other drinks and snacks.
Having been there once induced us to revisit the area and become more familiar with it. And we were not disappointed ;) The area offers more fens and plenty of paths to explore at your own leisure.
One or two tracks appeared to have the qualities of an obstacle course or steeple chase and required stepping over lots of tree trunks fallen across the footpath. On the positive side: a good exercise for the leg muscles ;) If you want to avoid this, alternatives are ready at hand.
Going deeper into the area, in fact in the farthest, south west corner, we were surprised by sounds from an apparently nearby karting track.
All in all, a relaxing hike in a wonderful area, where the hotspots are definitely located within 200 to 300 meters from the restaurant.
