Itinerary description
Incredible to find such peace and quiet in an area that so near the towns of Amersfoort and Soest and is surrounded by so many residential areas and housing estates.
We were really surprised by the tranquillity and beauty of the Korte Duinen area, which also seemed far more extensive than we had imagined.
Because the Birkhoven estate was so near we decided to include it in this hike. This turned out to be a great decision because it definitely added another dimension to the walk, with its appealing "bosvijver" and a viewing point up a hill, but also the small but wonderful Pinetum. From the location of the "Ijsvogel" sculpture you have a great view across the water, and at the same time, from the top of the hill you also get some views down towards the water. It was clear to us that this was a popular spot for many, among them many doglovers.
Along the other parts of this trail we hardly met a soul, even on a sunny Saturday in June.
It's well worth visiting this area !
By the way, there is a small carpark at the head of the trail, along the railwaytrack on a dead end road, Munnikenboschweg.
