Itinerary description
This short walk to the bottom of the Puente Nuevo provides a sharp contrast to the view from the top of the bridge. Begin at the south end of Plaza de María Auxiliadora and enjoy marvelous views on the way down. At the bottom, it is possible to walk directly under the bridge.
Notes
The track has extraneous lines because the gps does so much searching for a signal under the bridge and close to the cliff. The route is obvious when you are walking on it.
There are spots with steep drop-offs near the bottom of the trail where caution is necessary, especially with children.
Walk 7 of a long-distance walk through the Serranía de Ronda
From our journal:
Our final walk in Ronda was under the Puente Nuevo. This area also has a literary tie. Hemingway modeled an incident in “For Whom the Bell Tolls” on events that supposedly occurred in Ronda during the Spanish Civil War.
Possibilities for eating/sleeping
Apartamentos La Colegiata - Plaza de la Duquesa de Parcent, next to the Iglesia de Santa María la Mayor. The apartments are close to the starting point for numerous trails starting from Ronda. The owner is helpful with maps and questions.
La Tragata, C/ Nueva 4, near Puente Nuevo - for tacos
Casa María, Ruedo Alameda 27, Barrio San Francisco - for a meal after walking
